Job Summary: The tanning bed operator is responsible for providing excellent customer service, ensuring the safe operation of tanning equipment, and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in the salon. They must have a thorough understanding of tanning procedures, equipment operation, and customer safety protocols.

Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Service:

    • Greet customers warmly and assist them in understanding the tanning options available.

    • Educate customers on the risks and benefits of tanning, including skin types, recommended exposure times, and proper skincare.

    • Answer customer questions and address concerns regarding tanning procedures and equipment.

    • Trained to perform teeth whitening

  2. Tanning Equipment Operation:​

    • Ensure that customers are properly instructed on the use of tanning equipment and safety procedures.

    • Monitor tanning sessions to ensure customers adhere to recommended exposure times and safety guidelines.

    • Adjust equipment settings as needed to accommodate different skin types and preferences.

    • Operate tanning beds and booths according to manufacturer instructions and salon protocols.

  3. Safety and Hygiene:

    • Maintain a clean and sanitized environment in the tanning area, including wiping down equipment after each use.

    • Requirements for weekly deep cleaning of each room within the salon.

    • Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and notify management when supplies need to be replenished.

    • Adhere to salon policies and industry regulations regarding sanitation and safety protocols.

  4. Customer Assistance:

    • Assist customers in selecting appropriate tanning products, such as lotions and bronzers, based on their skin type and tanning goals.

    • Process customer transactions accurately using cash registers or point-of-sale systems.

    • Address customer complaints or concerns in a professional and timely manner, escalating issues to management as needed.

  5. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

    • Perform routine maintenance checks on tanning equipment to ensure proper functioning.

    • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform minor repairs or adjustments as needed.

    • Coordinate with management and external service providers for equipment servicing and repairs as necessary.

    • Assist senior operator (with bulbs, inventory, etc)

Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Previous experience in a customer service or salon environment preferred.

  3. Certification in tanning operations or willingness to undergo training.

  4. Knowledge of skin types, tanning procedures, and safety protocols.

  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  6. Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  7. Basic math skills for processing customer transactions.

  8. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  9. Physical stamina for standing, bending, and lifting equipment.

  10. Commitment to maintaining a professional and positive attitude towards customers and colleagues.

    • High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college education or relevant certifications in business management or cosmetology are preferred.

    • Prior experience in the tanning industry, retail, or customer service is advantageous.

    • Management or supervisory experience is a plus.

    • Excellent communication skills to interact with customers and employees.

    • Sales skills to promote salon products and services.

  3. Knowledge:

    • Understanding of tanning equipment, products, and services offered by the salon.

    • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to tanning beds and UV exposure.

    • Familiarity with health and hygiene standards in a salon environment.

    • Awareness of industry trends and competitor analysis.

  4. Training Program:

    • Completion of a structured training program covering various aspects of salon operations, including:

      • Customer service techniques and best practices.

      • Product knowledge including tanning lotions, skin care products, and accessories.

      • Sales and upselling strategies.

      • Salon maintenance and equipment operation.

      • Safety procedures and emergency protocols.

      • Administrative tasks such as scheduling, inventory management, and cash handling.

      • Team management and leadership skills development.

  5. Certifications:

    • Depending on local regulations, certification in tanning operations or cosmetology may be required or beneficial.

    • First Aid and CPR certification may also be necessary for handling emergency situations.

  6. On-the-Job Experience:

    • Hands-on experience working in different roles within the salon, including front desk duties, customer assistance, and basic salon maintenance.

    • Shadowing experienced managers to learn day-to-day operations and managerial responsibilities.

    • Rotations through various departments to gain a comprehensive understanding of salon functions.

  7. Performance Evaluation:

    • Regular performance assessments to evaluate progress and identify areas for improvement.

    • Feedback sessions with mentors or supervisors to discuss strengths, weaknesses, and development goals.

    • Successful completion of training milestones and assessments before advancing to a managerial role.

  8. Continuing Education:

    • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development through workshops, seminars, and online courses related to salon management, customer service, and industry advancements.
